If someone had said to me back when I graduated in 1995 that 24 years later my work would appear in the same publication as Sir Peter Blake’s, I would have laughed them off. At that time my aim was to get one paid commission. To get my name in print as an illustrator. That was my definition of success. So when I flicked through “The Illustrator – 100 Best From Around The World” a few days ago, almost a year after being asked to submit my work to be included, naturally I was keen to see who else was in the book. There are many people I am familiar with, many whose work I haven’t come across and a few “major status” artists I studied at college. Sir Peter Blake was my “go to” artist in the 90’s. I wanted to capture exactly what he did in his portraits. He was and still is an inspiration. I am total ecstatic to be included in a print publication alongside this icon.
The Taschen publications on Illustration over the last 15 years have been a great supporter of the industry, representing talent over the world and showcasing the many different styles on offer. This publication is the fourth my work has appeared in, clients often say they saw my work there first, so this is a thank you to the team at Taschen and also for making me 10 years younger in this publication!
